Hurricane Helene is expected to strike the Gulf Coast of Florida this week, forcing some regions to evacuate – CNN stated Helene threatens to hit as the strongest storm to make landfall in the United States in over a year.
Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey said if the trajectory of Helene holds, the area will see “unprecedented damage like nothing we have ever experienced before as a community.
“If the city of Tallahassee is hit directly by a Category 3 hurricane, it’ll be the strongest hurricane in recorded history ever to hit our community. Current forecast continues to position us squarely within the cone of Hurricane Helene,” he said today at a press conference for Tallahassee and Leon County. All this information and more was released on a blog by NBC News earlier today.
The current governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, issued a state of emergency in preparation for the storm. The severity of Helene’s impact includes potential flooding, fallen trees, downed power lines, and debris. A network of Georgia’s roads will be impassable in the counties affected, leaving many residences and individuals isolated from multiple public services.
